Philadelphia-based artist Elizabeth Osborne is best known for her glowing landscapes and seascapes. Osborne spent a year in the mid-1960s studying in Paris, resulting in the artist's first mature paintings. This exhibition presents the first survey of the artist's haunting, black paintings from the decade and traces the influence of Osborne's contemporaries, such as Jasper Johns and Robert Rauschenberg.

This exhibition surveys the state of realistic painting at the start of the 21st century, incuding the depiction of the natural world and the creation of fantastic imaginings. Featuring 20 artists from throughout the United States and Canada,Truth & Vision reveals the contemporary developments in a mode of painting historically tied to the greater Brandywine Valley.

Writers in Wilmington brings notable local writers to the Museum for enthralling readings of poetry, fiction, and non-fiction. During this audiovisual presentation and lively lecture, Ben Yagoda, cultural historian and a journalism professor at the University of Delaware, will discuss his most recent book The B Side: The Death of Tin Pan Alley and the Rebirth of the Great American Song. This is the story of how the American Songbook all but disappeared by the early 1950s. Followed by a brief Q&A. Free for Members, $5 for Non-Members.

This documentary is a first-person narrative of James Newton, Professor Emeritus of Black American Studies at the University of Delaware. It tells the history of this inspiring artist, author, educator, and activist, who is still using visual storytelling to power and shape positive social change. Following the film, producers from Serviam Media, Inc., will facilitate a discussion. Registration is recommended, but not required. Free and open to the public. Presented by Delaware Humanities Forum.

Marc Lapadula, an award-winning playwright and screenwriter, will host this seminar alongside Valetta, a nationally exhibiting artist whose work will be featured this fall in the Museum's Outlooks exhibition Fluidity. Participants will gain a richer understanding of America's primary art form by examining a script and viewing films. Presented by Marc Lapadula and Valetta. Free and open to the public.

During this unique talk, visitors will explore contemporary representational painting through the eyes of Truth & Vision exhibiting artist Robert C. Jackson and Dr. Henry Adams, Ruth Coulter Heede Professor of Art History at Case Western Reserve University. The speakers will discuss the current state of realism and its roots in the Brandywine Valley with a signing of the book, Behind the Easel, authored by Jackson to follow. Free for members $5 for Non-Members.
